Back in early 2007 when I was still new to SL, I rented an apartment at Mill Pond and was given a two hundred prim allotment. Two hundred! It sounded like a lot, and I was eager to go shopping and decorate my new place with awesome rugs and chairs and paintings.
As it turned out, you could burn through two hundred prims in no time. Details like chair legs, sofa cushions and shelves all ate into that allowance rather quickly.
Soon after that, sculpts emerged. Four chairs and a table used to cost you maybe twenty prims; with sculpts, that could be reduced to a mere four prims. It was amazing! Decor would still cost you, however; add a vase of flowers, an umbrella stand, or some place settings at the dining table and you’d still go through prims quickly.
These days, though? We’ve got mesh. And in the hands of the right designer, your prim count (or land impact as we like to say these days) will positively plummet:
Can you believe that absolutely everything in the collage above totals to just twenty-one prims?!
Bedside Tables: 3 each
Armchairs: 2 each
Coffee Table: 2
The twenty-one prim tally includes all decorations (well, all except for the pink Artilleri radio sitting on the table): the flower and candle arrangement, trinket box, basket, books, box of matches, numerous pillows, the lamps and picture frames and more candles and fuzzy slippers… ALL. OF. IT.
All of these furniture items came from LAQ Decor (again, except for the retro radio, which is an old Albero Gatcha item from Artilleri).
I did the short video above because I wanted to focus on all these little details. In addition to being extremely low prim, the shape and the texturing is really nicely done. What you don’t see in my video is just how loaded these items are: numerous male poses, female poses, couple poses, and then there’s all the texture and color options for the cover blanket, the sheets, the pillows, the wood finishes. You can have a different color bed every day, if you want!
And since I’ve mentioned the video, time for some shameless plugging, whee! :p Pink Fuel released the Kumi skin a little while ago and I’ve been meaning to put this shape that I made for it, up for sale. I haven’t yet but I will soon!
The lingerie was released by Redgrave this past summer, but I didn’t know about it until just a few days ago thanks to their Facebook page. Merchants should look into creating a Facebook page for their SL brand if they haven’t already done so. I keep a Facebook (FB) account mainly just to play a few games, but lately I’ve realized that I tend to take note of what my FB friends are “liking” and “sharing”. Several SL fashion minded friends have introduced me to brands and items I probably never would have looked at otherwise; it’s a good way to get a sort of word-of-mouth exposure. I know, I know… it’s yet one more social network to keep track of and it might seem tedious to keep a FB page updated. There’s a ton of SL-related activity on FB, however, so it might be worth your while.
